The Vineyard

The vineyard sits at 700 feet above the valley floor, planted in 1989 in volcanic and gravelly loam soils. These conditions provide the foundation for Cabernet Sauvignon with concentration, structure, and balance.
Morning fog, elevation, and the character of Oakville's soils all play a role in shaping the wine, giving the fruit both intensity and freshness.

The 2023 Vintage
Winter rains stirred Oakville's stones.
A cool spring extended the growing season, while morning fog softened the edges of the valley. As September brought warmth and the fruit deepened, the vineyard moved slowly toward harvest.
The Cabernet Sauvignon was hand-picked on October 13, 2023, yielding 2.8 tons per acre.
The resulting wine carries the concentration of the vintage while maintaining the elegance and structure of its Oakville origins.
The Making
No. 1 The Beginning was aged for 17 months in French oak, with 85% new Demptos barrels.
The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered, preserving its character and allowing the finished wine to remain as close as possible to its original expression.
